Where Do Our Flowers Come From?

D’où viennent nos fleurs? - Fleuriste Abaca

A fresh flower starts with a good point of origin. At Abaca Florist, we love local: we work with farms in the greater Montréal area and we source flowers from Ontario as much as possible.

Why favour local

Flowers grown closer to home travel for a shorter time before reaching our shop. They generally arrive fresher, which is an advantage once they are at home.

It is also a way to support growers in the region and to keep direct ties with the people who grow the flowers we work with every day.

Farms in the greater Montréal area

When the season and the varieties allow it, we turn to the flower farms of the region. These growers offer us varieties that truly grow here, in step with the climate they know well.

Flowers from Ontario

Most of the varieties available in our shop come from Ontario, a neighbouring province where flower production is well established and continues all year long. This lets us offer more choice while keeping a relatively short supply chain.

The rhythm of the seasons

Because we favour what is available locally, our creations change throughout the year. In spring, summer and fall, you will find varieties in our bouquets that reflect what is actually blooming at that time. Some varieties are simply not available locally at certain times of the year.

What this means for you

  • flowers that travel less and generally arrive fresher;
  • creations that reflect the season and the region;
  • a way to support local growers.
